Yellow Perch

Yellow Perch were originally introduced in 1919. They have an olive-green back and brassy-yellow sides with 6 to 9 dark vertical bars as well as a white belly. Their anal fin, pectoral and pelvic fins are amber-orange tinted. They have soft (rear) dorsal fin with 12 to 13 rays.

 

Average Length: 4 to12 inches.

Average Weight: 3 to16 ounces.

Habitat

Found in Stoneman Lake, Yellow Perch prefer clear water with moderate, aquatic vegetation. They spawn in spring; The eggs are extruded in a ribbon-like, gelatinous string, which is deposited over vegetation or woody debris. The parents do not guard the eggs or fry.

Diet

Yellow Perch feed on small fish, crawfish and insects.
